Our Story

Hymans Jewellers – A Family Legacy of Craftsmanship in the Heart of Leeds

Family-Run, Second-Generation Working Jewellers – Over 40 Years of Trusted Craftsmanship

The Harewood Street Shop.

Where It All Began

Our story began in the 1970s, when our father opened the first Hymans Jewellers on Harewood Street, just off Eastgate and across from the old Millgarth Police Station, near the historic Leeds Market.

For decades, we served the community as a traditional working jeweller and precious-metal trader, specialising in antiques, medals, fine jewellery, and luxury watches.

Although the original shop now forms part of the John Lewis redevelopment, many long-standing customers still stop by the old site—and then follow Google maps to find us today.

Family-Run & Second Generation

Today, as second-generation jewellers, we continue to uphold the standards set by our family:
1

Craftsmanship Expertise

Meticulous craftsmanship defines every stage of our work. From the moment a piece enters our Call Lane workshop, our master jewellers carry out a thorough inspection, documenting each stone and setting before a single tool is lifted. Whether we are re-tipping delicate antique claws, hand-sourcing perfectly matched diamonds, or shaping a bespoke design from raw metal, every solder, polish and final buff is executed to the highest traditional standard.

2

Honesty

For generations, Hymans Jewellers has built its reputation on trust and transparency. Our family-run Leeds workshop offers fair, same-day valuations and immediate settlement for gold, platinum, and silver—whether it’s broken scrap, bullion, or fine pieces. We specialise in sourcing and reselling antique jewellery and carefully curated luxury watches, ensuring every item is authenticated, hallmarked, and priced with integrity. Customers return to us knowing they will always receive accurate advice, competitive market rates, and a warm welcome.

3

Second-to-none Customer Service

At Hymans Jewellers, every visitor is treated like family. From the first hello to the final polish of a finished piece, our team takes time to listen, advise, and explain each step. That dedication to care and transparency has earned us more than 350 verified five-star reviews and, more importantly, the trust of customers who return year after year—often introducing the next generation to the shop their parents and grandparents have loved.

Our Community

Call Lane: One of Leeds’ Oldest Streets

Call Lane is more than just our address—it is a living link to Leeds’ past. Recognised as one of the oldest streets in the city centre, it once formed a key route between the River Aire and the bustling Kirkgate Market area. Merchants, jewellers and craftsmen have traded here for centuries, and remnants of medieval Leeds can still be seen in the surrounding lanes and yards. The nearby Kirkgate Market, famous as the birthplace of Marks & Spencer’s original penny bazaar, remains one of Europe’s largest covered markets and a vibrant reminder of the city’s commercial heritage.
